Mandakini River




Mandakini River, also known as Paisuni River, is an important tributary of the Ganges River in Uttaranchal. It rises from the Chorabari Lake, also known as Gandhi Sarovar, near Kedarnath Temple. The river is only 82 km-long. Mandakini is considered a sacred river by the Hindus. At Rudraprayag, Alaknanda River joins Mandakini and the confluence of these two rivers is an important pilgrimage for Hindus. It has several places of pilgrimage on its banks such as Chitrakoot, Rudraprayag and Kedarnath.
