Unnao District




Unnao District in Uttar Pradesh has an area of 4,558 sq km. It is bordered by Hardoi District in the north, Lucknow District in the east, Rae Bareli District in the south, and the Ganges in the west. The population is over 2.7 million. The district is named after its headquarters town, Unnao.

Numerous legendary figures such as Parashuram, Dasaratha, Sarvana, Valmiki, Sita, Lava-Kusha, Lord Ram, Bakasura, Lord Krishna, Mayuradhvaja, Ashvatthama and Astika mentioned in the epics and puranas are associated with different places in Unnao District.

The Ganges and Sai are the major rivers and other rivers and streams include Kalyani, Tanai, Loni, and Morahi. Leather industries are most commonly found. Nawabganj Bird Sanctuary, Mogli Water Park, Badarqa Harbans, Baksar, Bangarmau, Daundia Khera, Nawabganj, Pariyar, and Safipur are the major tourist attractions.
