Pali Language

The sacred scriptures of Buddhism are written in the ancient Pali language. Pali literally means 'sacred text'. It is believed that Lord Buddha spoke in Pali and hence, the Pali canon is regarded as the most authentic version of the sermons given by Buddha. The Buddhist scriptures in Pali are commonly referred to as Tipitaka, meaning Threefold Basket. These three Baskets of the law are Vinaya-Pitaka, Sutta-Pitaka and Abhidhamma-Pitaka.
