Kosi Kalan is a town located in Chhata taluk in
Mathura District of
Uttar Pradesh. It is on the
Agra-
Delhi highway (
National Highway 2). Agra is about 100 km from here. This place is popularly known as the holy place of Braj (Vraj).
The ancient name ‘Kush-van’ (grass forest) was shorted to form Kosi Kalan. A popular belief is that Kosi is a contraction of Kushsthali. Kosi has three holy tanks named Maya Kund, Bisakha Kund and Gomati Kund. There is a St Theresa’s Church and School functioning at Kosi.
Accommodations are available in Kosi Tourist Complex and Country Inn Kosi. Kosi Kalan Railway Station is on the Delhi-Mathura main line. The nearest airport is at New Delhi (100 km).
