Bharatpur District




Bharatpur District lies in the easternmost part of Rajasthan. It is situated 100 m above the sea level and is surrounded by Gurgaon District of Haryana in north, Mathura District of Uttar Pradesh in east, Dausa District in south-west, and district of Alwar in the north-west. Bharatpur has a total area of 5,066 sq km and the population is over 2 million.

There are three main rivers: the Banganga, Ruparail and Gambhir. Major crops are wheat, rapeseed and mustard, bajra, pulses, gram, jowar, sugarcane, gram, barley, paddy, red chilies, sesamum and maize. The broad-gauge line of the western railway passes through Bharatpur. The prime attractions are Keoladeo National Park, Lohagarh Fort and Palace, Deeg, Gopal Bhavan, Bengal Chamber, Keshav Bhavan, Suraj Bhavan, Nand Bhavan, Purana Mahal, and Deeg Fort.
