Viralimalai Peacock Sanctuary

The hill, small town and Murugan Temple at Viralimalai, south of Tiruchirappalli have been nominated the Viralimalai Peacock Sanctuary. Several species of peacocks can be seen here in the wild state. Mythologically the vehicle of Lord Muruga(Subramanya), these birds are considered divine by the local people. The Sanctuary is 30 km south of Tiruchirappalli airport. The place can also be reached from Pudukkottai, 40 km by road.
