Vagulagiri is a small hillock, on the southern bank of Tamiraparani River. It is on the road from
Tiruchendur to
Tirunelveli, near Karungulam village, in
Tuticorin District.
The hill is the form of Lord Garuda and is known as Garuda Hill. A temple called
Vagulagiri Srinivasa Temple of Lord Vishnu is located on the top. At the foot of the hill is the Maarthaanda Eesvara Temple. It is said that one should visit the Maarthaanda Eesvara Temple before visiting the Lord's shrine at the top of the Garuda Hill. Having a dip in the Tamiraparani River is considered very sacred, especially during the Tamil month of Aavani (mid-August to mid-September month).
