Viluppuram




Viluppuram (also spelt Villuparam) is the administrative headquarters of Viluppuram District. It is a pretty town situated on the TiruchirapalliChennai highway. The place is famous for ancient temples, churches and mosques. Viluppuram is 150 km south-west of Chennai.

Places of tourist interest include Gingee Fort, 24 Tirthankarrgul, Kalyana Mahal, Venugopala Swamy Temple, Narasimma Swamy Koil, Krishnagiri Fort, Marakanam Beach and Melnaariyappanoor Church.

Nearest airport is at Chennai. Viluppuram Railway Station is linked by regular trains to Chennai, Kanchipuram, Madurai, Tiruchirapalli and Salem. National Highway 45A passes through Viluppuram.
