Madurai. It starts at Kundanoor near Cochin bypass and ends at the eastern tip of Rameshwaram Island.
In Kerala, NH 49 traverses a total distance of 150 km before entering Tamil Nadu at Bodimettu. Muvattupuzha, Kothamangalam and Munnar are some major towns that lie along the highway. In Tamil Nadu, it covers a total length of 290 km and passes through Theni, Madurai, Paramakudi, Ramanathapuram and Rameshwaram before reaching Dhanushkodi.
