Aranthangi lies at a distance of 34 km from Pudukkottai. It is the second largest town in
Pudukkottai District.
A ruined fort constructed out of mud is the major attraction. The fort is believed to have been built by the Tondaimans, during the 15th and 16th centuries. An eleventh-century temple of Rajendra Chola Varma is another interest. Nearby attractions are the Palk Straits (23 km), Avudiyar Koil (15 km) - ancient temple with sculptures and drawings, and the 100-year-old Oiyur St.Arulunadar Church (40 km).
