Perambalur District is surrounded by
Cuddalore District in the north,
Tiruchirapalli District in the south,
Thanjavur District in the east and
Namakkal District in the west. With an area of 3,690 sq km, Perambalur District has a population of over 1.2 million.
With a semi arid climate, the area gets a normal rainfall of 908 mm. It has a net sown area of 216,422 hectare. The chief river
Cauvery forms the irrigation resource. Other irrigation resources are tube wells and wells. The major crops are paddy, groundnut, sugarcane and millets. Cashew is the main plantation crop. Forests occupy 25,347 hectare of land.
Perambalur District has various industries including the India Cements Limited, Grasim Industries Limited, Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Limited and Tamil Nadu Cements Corporation Limited. Sathanur Fossil Tree, Ranjankudi Fort and Karaivetti Birds Sanctuary are the major tourist attractions. You can reach these places through the national highways and the state highways.
