Sathanur Fossil Tree

Sathanur Fossil Tree is a pre-historic tree, which is about 100,000,000 years old. It is located at Sathanur in Perambalur District.

This large trunk of petrified tree shows the presence of conifers that dominated the land vegetation prior to the advent of Angiosperms. The tree has a length of 18 m.

Similar fossil trees measuring a few meters in length are found along the stream sections near Varagur, Anaipadi, Alundalipur and Saradamangalam.
