Gandhi Memorial

Gandhi Memorial at Kanyakumari was built in memory of Mahatma Gandhi, the ‘father of the nation’. Completed in 1956, it is a good example of modern architecture.

The memorial is 79 ft high, which represents his age at the time of death. It is designed in such a way that the sun light falls on the pedestal at 12:00 hrs on 2nd October, the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi. The memorial features an urn which preserves Gandhiji's ashes for public to pay homage.
