White Ibis (Eudocimus albus) is a long-legged, long-necked wading bird with short tails. It is an excellent example of the colonial water bird. The adult bird has white feathers with black wing tips. The bare face and bill are red. White Ibis inhabits wetlands of the interior and coastal marshes and swamps. Diet consists of crabs, crayfish, insects, snails, frogs, marine worms, snakes and small fish.
These birds nest in huge colonies in fresh water marshes or along the ocean coast. Nests are usually constructed in mangroves, trees and thickets. The nest is usually a platform of sticks, sometimes of cord grass or reeds. Up to five eggs are laid.
White Ibis can be spotted in the Chitrangudi Bird Sanctuary, Tamil Nadu.
