Avadaiyarkovil




Located in Pudukkottai District of Tamil Nadu, Avadaiyarkovil is a prominent pilgrim center in south India. This taluk headquarters is around 48 km from Pudukkottai and 14 km south of Aranthangi. The place has a famous Shiva temple, Athmanathaswami Temple, noted for its exquisite sculptural work, and is one of the best architectural marvels in south India. The sanctum sanctorum, covered with copper plate, is similar to that of the Chidambaram Nataraja Temple.

Avadaiyarkovil lies on the Mimisal-Pudukkottai State Highway. Arantangi Railway Station serves the town. Tiruchirapalli Airport is 85 km north and Madurai Airport is 109 km west.
