East Sikkim District is situated on south-eastern corner of the state of Sikkim
. It is bounded in the north by North Sikkim District
, in the east by the Chumbi valley of Tibet and the kingdom of Bhutan, in the south by the state of West Bengal
and in the west by West Sikkim District

. East Sikkim District occupies a total area of 954 sq km. It has a population of about 180,000. Lepcha, Bhutia, Hindi
and Limboo are the main languages spoken.
