East Sikkim District




East Sikkim District is situated on south-eastern corner of the state of Sikkim. It is bounded in the north by North Sikkim District, in the east by the Chumbi valley of Tibet and the kingdom of Bhutan, in the south by the state of West Bengal and in the west by West Sikkim District. The district headquarters is located at Gangtok. East Sikkim District occupies a total area of 954 sq km. It has a population of about 180,000. Lepcha, Bhutia, Hindi and Limboo are the main languages spoken.
