Phalodi




Located 141 km from Jodhpur District headquarters, Phalodi is an old caravan center in Thar Desert. It is thought to have been founded in the 15th century. Famous as an old town of ancient Jain and Hindu temples, it houses temples of over 300 years old. A 400 year old fort of monumental importance is another specialty.

Lying midway between Jaisalmer and Bikaner, Phalodi is the salt-extraction colony of Rajasthan. A fighter air base for the Indian Air Force is stationed at Phalodi. Keechen, a nearby village is worth visiting.

Phalodi is about 140 km from Jodhpur, 165 km from Jaisalmer and 150 km from Bikaner.The nearest airport is about 165 km away in the desert town of Jaisalmer. Phalodi is a railhead on the broadgauge railway line that connects Jaisalmer and Jodhpur.
