Ajmer

Located 130 km west of Jaipur, Ajmer is a famous tourist destination of Rajasthan surrounded by the Aravalli Ranges. This city was founded by Ajaipal Chauhan in early 7th century. Ajmer is worth visiting for its natural charm, and its religious, historical and architectural interest. In ancient times, it was called by the name Ajaimeru which means 'Invincible Hill'. It was also the seat of administration for the Chauhans.

The city is renowned for its Dargah of Sufi Saint Khwaja Muin-ud-din Chisthi, founder of the Chishtiya order and is one of the holiest Muslim shrines in the country. This makes the city a great Muslim pilgrim center.

Besides, Ajmer-e-Sharief Dargah, Adhai-din-ka-Jhonpura, Shah Jahan's Mosque and Taragarh Fort are the other highlights. Pushkar is 14 km away from Ajmer. Snake Mountain or 'Nag pahar' forms a natural boundary between Ajmer and Pushkar. The best time to visit the city is during the festival of Urs. Pushkar Lake, Man Mahal and Foy Sagar are the nearby attractions of Ajmer.

Accommodation facilities are available at Hotel Ambassador, Hotel Khadim, Hotel Mansingh Palace and Hotel Regency.

Jaipur's Sanganer Airport is the nearest airport. Ajmer Railway Station is on the Rewari- Bhilwara line. The National Highway 8 passes through Ajmer. Ajmer is about 400 km from New Delhi.
