Jaipur District was founded by Maharaja Jai Singh II. It is located in the eastern part of Rajasthan, and is bounded by
Sikar and Alwar in the north, Tonk, Ajmer and Sawai Madhopur in the south, Nagaur in the west, and Bharatpur and Dausa districts in the east. Jaipur has a total area of 14,068 sq km with a population of around 5 million. The city Jaipur is the district headquarters.
The climate is healthy and dry in nature. The normal annual rainfall is 55 cm. Banas and Banganga are the major rivers passing through Jaipur District. The main agricultural crops are maize, jowar, wheat, barley, gram, pulses, groundnut and sugarcane.
