Kapurthala




Kapurthala is the headquarters of the Kapurthala District in Punjab. The city was named after its founder Nawab Kapur Singh. It is about 19 km due west from Jalandhar City.

Kapurthala is a major agricultural market and has several industries, manufacturing chemicals and paints. Panch Mandir is the most striking building here, built during the reign of Sardar Fateh Singh. The Moorish Mosque which is a unique building in India, designed by the French architect M Manteaux, is also situated in the city. Other tourist sites in Kapurthala are the Shalimar Garden, Jagatjit Palace, Sultanpur Lodhi and the Phagwara.
