Utkal University, established in 1943, is located at Bhubaneswar. This State University is the 17th oldest university in India. It is flanked by Sainik School to its north, National Highway 5 to its south, Regional Research Laboratory and Institute of Physics to its west and the South Eastern Railway line to its east.
A teaching-cum-affiliating university, Utkal has about 26 postgraduate departments located in the university campus. With about 263 affiliated colleges affiliated to it, its jurisdiction spreads over nine districts, namely, Angul, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Khordha, Nayagarh and Puri.
The Directorate of Distance and Continuing Education, the constituent institution of the university, is located on the National Highway 5 near Vani Vihar traffic post. It offers numerous academic programs in various fields.
