Gunupur, located about 65 km south-west of
Rayagada, lies on the foothills of the picturesque
Eastern Ghats.
The town is on the banks of
Vamsadhara River in Orissa. Gunupur was a mission station of Visakhapatnam Diocese. It is about 24 km from Padmapur, the abode of Manikeswari Shiva.
Nearest airport is at Visakhapatnam.
Gunupur Railway Station on the narrow gauge line links Gunupur with Naupada. Buses connect Gunupur directly with Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Jeypore, Sunabeda, Rayagada, Bhawanipatna, Indravati, Damanjodi and Umerkote in Orissa and also Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam in Andhra Pradesh.
