Malabar Pied Hornbill




Malabar Pied Hornbill (Anthracoceros coronatus)has mainly black plumage apart from its white belly, throat patch, tail sides and trailing edge to the wings. Its bill is yellow with a large, mostly black casque. It grows up to 65 cm in length.

Malabar Pied Hornbill inhabits open forests and groves. The species is omnivorous, eating fruit, fish and small mammals. The call consists of various high-pitched cackles and squeals.

Malabar Pied Hornbill can be sighted in the Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary, Karnataka.
