A person visiting India requires, in addition to entry visas, special permits to visit certain areas of the country. Areas such as the north eastern frontier states of

, border areas of Jammu and Kashmir

, union territories of Andaman and Nicobar and Lakshadweep
are out of bound for foreign nationals. Travelers, who intend to visit any of these areas, must apply for a permit from the Ministry of Home Affairs, at least four weeks in advance.
