Indore




Indore is situated in western Madhya Pradesh, in the Narmada river valley. Founded in 1715, the city was for long under the rule of the Holkar dynasty of the Marathas. This important industrial and trade center is well-known for its textile industry.

Indore, known as the commercial capital of the state, manufactures cotton textiles, hosiery, chemicals, furniture, metal products and jewelry. The Chanderi and Maheshwari silks of Indore are in demand world over. The city also has many historical monuments and temples. The Rajwada or the Old Palace, Lalbagh Palace, Kanch Mandir, Chattri Bagh and the huge Bada Ganapati temple are some of the tourist attractions. The famous festivals of the city are Navratri fair, Anant Chaudas, Rangapanchami, and Ahilya Utsav.

Indore has a moderate climate and the best time to visit is between October and March. On the western side of the town is the airport. The city is also well-connected by road and rail.
