Bhiwandi is the headquarters of the Bhiwandi taluka and lies on the Mumbai -Agra road. The town is about 51 km from Mumbai and 16 km from Thane .

Located in the Konkan coastal lowlands, Bhiwandi is a rapidly growing industrial city, famous for its handlooms and power looms. Manufacture of machinery for rice mills, making carpets and silk fabrics are the major industrial activities.
