Washim District




Washim District is located in the Vidarbha region of the state of Maharashtra. It occupies an area of about 5,150 sq km and has a population of over 1 million. Washim District is named after the town of Washim. Marathi, Hindi and Varhadi are the languages spoken. It is renowned for its Hemadpanthi temples and various ponds. Cotton, wheat, jowar, bajra, tur, mango, sugarcane and rice are the chief crops. The temperature varies from 9o C to 45 o C and the annual rainfall is about 832 mm. Bhajan, keertan, shahiri, powada, gondhal, bharud and dandar are the principal folk arts. Shreekshetra Pohradevi, Karanja Lad and Shree Balaji temple are the major tourist attractions.
