Wardha District




With an area of 6,310 sq km, Wardha District has a population of over 1.2 million. The temperature varies from 20o C to 33o C. It receives an annual rainfall of over 104 cm. International Hindi University is situated in Wardha District. Cotton, millet, wheat and oil-seeds are the main crops. There are cotton-mills at Hinganghat and many factories for ginning and pressing cotton. Bhajan, Dandar, Gondhal and Powada are the major folk arts.

Gandhiji's Ashram at Sevagram and Vinoba Bhave's Paunar Ashram are the two modern pilgrim centers in Wardha District. Sevagram is the epitome of Gandhiji's teachings of simplicity and truth. Gandhi Gyan Mandir, Manganwadi and Bajajwadi are also situated in Wardha. The major tourist attractions are Paunar, Girad, Ashti, Bor dam, Vishwa Shanti Stupa and Mahakali Dam.
