Sagar, the administrative seat of the
Sagar District, is about 200 km north-east of
Bhopal. Built about 1758 ft above sea level, the town is encircled by the
Vindhya Range. The town derived its name from the beautiful lake, situated in the heart of the town. Sagar is the oldest seat of higher education in
Madhya Pradesh with the University of Sagar and other colleges. The town is also one of the oldest army cantonments of India and headquarters of Mahar Regiment center.
Naoradehi Wildlife Sanctuary, Bina,
Khurai, Rahatgarh, Rehli, Garhakota, Khimlasa, Abchand, Deori and
Banda are the major attractions.
