Betul District is situated in the western part of
Madhya Pradesh on the Satpura plateau. It derives the name from the small town of Betul Bazar about 5 km south of
Badnur. The common languages are
Hindi,
Gondi,
Marathi, and Korku.
Betul has an area of 10,043 sq km and a population of 1.8 million. The main tourist locations are Bhainsdehi,
Multai, Shahpur and Muktagiri.
Most parts are covered by forests. Many medicinal plants are found in the forest area. The main rivers are the Tawa,
Chikhli and Tapi.
The nearest airports are at Nagpur and Bhopal.
