Kumar Gandharva, a distinguished classical vocalist, was born on 8th April 1924. Apart from classical music, he was also well versed in the various styles of folk music. He created several new
ragas such as Sanjari, Malavati and Sohani Bhatiyar and also composed repertoire such as Geet Hemant, Geet Varsha, and Geet Shishir. In 1974, he was honored with an award by
Sangeet Natak Akademi. He was also the recipient of the Padma Bhushan Award. He died in 1992.
