Mandla




Mandla, the headquarters of Mandla District, is located in eastern Madhya Pradesh. The town is named after Mandal Mishra, a disciple of Adi Shankaracharya, one of the great philosophers of India. Mandla is 95 km south of Jabalpur.

Mandla Fort was constructed during the reign of Gondwana and it is the prime attraction of the place. Kanha National Park and Phen Wildlife Sanctuary are the other major attractions. Ramnagar, 15 km away, is renowned for a 3-storied palace. Nerbudda River flows through the town and has many tributaries rising from the Maikal hills, which is a picturesque place clothed with sal (Shorea robusta) forest.

Nearest airport is at Jabalpur. Jabalpur Railway Station is nearest major railhead. Mandla Fort Station, on the narrow gauge line, is 4 km from the town.
