Attingal is a municipal town located on the NH 47 (National Highway), about 30 km north of
Thiruvananthapuram and 40 km south of
Kollam. This historical town exemplifies its past through its unique
Attingal Palace. The site of the Dutch East India Company’s main garrison, Anjengo Fort is nearby. Attingal is about 15 km east from the seaside town of
Varkala, renowned for its splendid
Papanasam Beach. To the west of the town (6 km) is the famous Sarkara Devi Temple, dedicated to Goddess Bhadrakali.
The nearest railhead is Chirayinkil Railway Station. Airport close to Attingal is Trivandrum International Airport.
