Established in the name of
Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, on his birthday, the 2nd of October, 1983, Mahatma Gandhi University (MG University) is the largest of the four major universities in
Kerala. The main campus is located on the Priyadarsini Hills, 13 km away from
Kottayam Railway Station and 4 km from
Ettumanoor. Spread over the districts of
Kottayam,
Ernakulam,
Idukki and some parts of
Alappuzha and
Pathanamthitta, this university has 23 teaching and research departments and 107 affiliated colleges, as well as several information and study centers.
