Terracotta

Terracotta (means baked earth) is an impure form of Kaolinite with buff or brown in color. On baking, it transforms into different shades of ochre and orange. Hence, this hard semi-fired waterproof clay is used in making pottery, statues and other artifacts.

Terracotta Art is popular in India and Bankura District in West Bengal produces a variety of terracotta objects.
