Goddess Chamundi represents an aspect of the divine mother's energy. She is a form of
Goddess Parvati. She has three eyes and eight hands. The hands hold trident, conch, shell, mace, shield, arrow, disk and rope. Chamundi is seated on her vehicle, the buffalo. Her left foot rests on a demon who prays to Her.
Goddess Parvati assumed the form of Chamundi in order to kill the demon-king Mahishasura who used to rule over Mysore. She then took up residence at the top of Chamundi hill, where she is worshipped with ardent devotion even today.
