Thenmala




Thenmala, covered by dense green forests, is a small hamlet on the foothills of Western Ghats. ‘Thenmala’ means honey hill in Malayalam. Due to the peculiar floristic composition of the forest, the honey collected from Thenmala forest is famous for its medicinal values. Thenmala dam and its surroundings are the main points of interests. Thenmala Ecotourism project is one of the first ecotourism projects to come up in India. Shenduruney Wildlife Sanctuary located here is a major attraction. Thenmala is situated 66 km east of Kollam on the Kollam-Shencottai Road. Thenmala has a railway station on the Kollam- Tenkasi meter gauge line.
