Thani Illam

Thannikkatt Illam (Thani Illam) is an eco-friendly heritage home at Koovappady in Ernakulam District of Kerala. The house is the erstwhile home of the renowned Malayalam writer Malayattur Ramakrishnan. This 100-year old structure reflects the finesse of the traditional Kerala architecture. Now it is preserved, maintained and promoted by the Grahasthali Project. Accommodations are available in two rooms – the Thekkini (the south facing room) and Kulappura, the room above an internal pond. The word 'Kulam' refers pool and 'pura' means room. Home made Kerala vegetarian cuisine is served in the Illam. Liquor is not permitted. Facilities and services include travel assistance, daily site seeing trips, laundry services, DD phones and doctor on call. Thannikkatt Illam is 12 km from Cochin International Airport and 26 km from Aluva Railway Station.
