Kalpetta



Kalpetta, the seat of administration of Wayanad District, is a small town surrounded by thick coffee plantations. It is situated 72 km to the northeast of Kozhikode and is the only municipality in the district.

Once a stronghold of Jains, Kalpetta is home to some of the old Jain temples in Kerala. The famous Ananthanathaswamy Jain Temple (at Puliyarmala) and the Santhinathan Temple at Venniyode stands testimony to the Jain tradition. Other places of tourist interest include Chembra Peak, Varambetta Mosque (15 km), Glass temple of kottumude (20 km), Santhi Nathan Temple, Edakkal Caves, Banasura Sagar Dam (21 km), Meenmutty Falls and Lakkidi.

Nearest airport is at Kozhikode, which is also the closest major railway station. Kalpetta has regular buses to Kozhikode, Kannur, Sultan Battery and Mysore.
