Bharathapuzha River

Nila River


Bharathapuzha is the second largest river in Kerala. It is also known by the name Kuttipuram Puzha. The river rises from the Anamalai region of Tamil Nadu. Ponnaniyar and Nila are the other names of this river. It passes through the districts of Coimbatore, Palakkad, Malappuram, and Thrissur. The river has a length of 209 km and reaches the Arabian Sea at Ponnani.

Gayathri River, Kannadi River, Kalpathi River and Thutha River are the main tributaries. The main irrigation projects of Bharathapuzha are Mangala, Pothund, Gayathri, Malampuzha, Valayar, Cheerakuzhi, Chitoor and Kanjirapuzha.
