Kottukal Rock Cut Cave Temple

Located on the Thiruvananthapuram - Kottayam M C Road, the Kottukal Rock Cut Cave Temple is noted for its unique architecture. One of the few cave temples in the state, it still stands exemplifying the traditional artistic excellence of the yester years.

Situated in a paddy field, the temple, which is carved out of a gigantic piece of rock, gives the appearance of a sleeping elephant. The presiding deity here is Lord Ganapati, installed between two square rooms. Lord Shiva, Hanuman and Nandikeswara are also worshipped here. A mandapam in front of one of the rooms is noted for its architectural finesse. A well in the temple premises, which never gets dried up even in the heat of summer, is another point of interest.
