Thangal Uppappa Urs

Thangal Uppappa Urs is a nercha festival celebrated in memory of Valiyullahi Mohammed Haneef (Thangal Uppappa), an Auliya. It takes place at Nellikkunnu Muhayuddin Juma Masjid, situated 2 km from Kasargod. The mosque has a memorial tomb for this holy man with supernatural powers.

The Urs is held once in two years, during December-January, and lasts for seven to eleven days. During this festive occasion, the religious speeches by Muslim scholars are conducted. A grand feast takes place on the last day of the Urs. Large numbers of people from far-off places come here to join this nercha festival and pay rich tribute to the Thangal.
