National Highway 49




National Highway 49, declared a national highway in 1989, links Kochi in Kerala with Dhanushkodi in Tamil Nadu through Madurai. It starts at Kundanoor near Cochin bypass and ends at the eastern tip of Rameshwaram Island.

In Kerala, NH 49 traverses a total distance of 150 km before entering Tamil Nadu at Bodimettu. Muvattupuzha, Kothamangalam and Munnar are some major towns that lie along the highway. In Tamil Nadu, it covers a total length of 290 km and passes through Theni, Madurai, Paramakudi, Ramanathapuram and Rameshwaram before reaching Dhanushkodi.
