Srirangapatna




An oval shaped island formed by the two branches of river Cauvery, Srirangapatna is an historical town and was the capital of Tipu Sultan during the 18th century.

The fort, from which Tipu Sultan waged his battle against the British, is the prime attraction. The fort houses a mosque and the famous Sri Ranganathaswami temple. The other interests are Daria Daulat Bagh, Tippu's Palace, Gumbaz and Ranganathittu Bird Sanctury.

Nearest airport is at Bangalore. Srirangapatna Railway Station is on the Mysore-Bangalore line. Srirangapatna is on the Bangalore-Mysore highway and is located 16 km northeast of Mysore.
