Mallikarjuna Temple




Mallikarjuna Temple is a highly revered shrine located at Pattadakkal, in Bagalkot District of Karnataka. The temple was built by the queens of Vikramaditya II in memory of his victorious march against Kanchi in 745 AD. The temple tower is topped by a dome and is noted for its architectural craftsmanship – an outstanding example of Chalukya style of architecture.

Virupaksha Temple, Galaganatha Temple, Sangameshwara Temple, Jambulinga Temple, Papanath Temple, Kada Siddeswara Temple and a Jain temple are other main shrines around Pattadakkal.

The annual festival celebrated in March-April is a major draw.

Mallikarjuna Temple is about 17 km from Aihole and 22 km from Badami. The nearest railway station is at Badami.
