Itagi




Itagi in Koppal district is 7 km from Kuknur. The place is known for the fine Kalyana Chalukya temples. Among these the best is the Mahadeva temple constructed by Mahadev Dandanayaka, army chief of Vikramaditya of the Chalukya dynasty, in 1112. Mahadeva Temple is located about 15 km from Koppal and 20 km from Yelburga. There is a legend that the celebrated Hoysala sculptor of Halebid and Belur, Jakkannachari, visited Itagi before he began work on his temples.

Koppal Railway Station is the nearest railhead. Hubli Airport is the nearest airport.
