Mirror Embroidery

Mirror Embroidery is one of the most attractive among Indian handicrafts. It is an art of incorporating the shisha or the mirror in clothing, torans (doorway hangings), household shrines, curtains and rumals (cloth wrappings). This art is supposed to have had its origin in Persia somewhere around the 13th century. It is used by the Jats of Banni community. They cut the glass into different shapes and embroider it in the fabric. Though very popular in Gujarat, it is also done in Rajasthan and other parts of India with the same fervor.
