Malleswaram

Malleswaram is a western suburb of Bangalore. The place derives its name from the famous Kadu Malleshwara Temple located here. It was originally a village named Mallapura. The suburb was created owing to the outbreak of a plague in 1898 which caused many people to shift out of the city center.

One of the interesting aspects of Malleswaram is the system of numbered main and cross roads, which forms a grid-like structure, facilitating the easy tracing of any residential address. It also has the distinction of being the birthplace of Noble laureate C V Raman and numerous other sportsmen, writers, scholars and musicians.

Yeshwantpur, another important suburb, is to the north. The reputed Indian Institute of Science is located at its fringes.

Malleswaram Railway Station is on the Bangalore-Yesvantpur rail route.Bangalore International Airport is the nearest airport.
