Shigar (South) River is the left bank tributary of the Indus River
of Jammu and Kashmir
. It originates from a glacier located at the base of the Nunkun Peak.
This river drains northwards and joins the Indus River at Marol. Many snow-fed tributaries join the Shigar (South) River at various places, some of them are Drass River, Shiugo River, Suru River and Wakha River.
Vegetation is restricted to alpine meadows on sheltered moraines and strips along snow-melt waters. Human habitation is very limited; some of the important settlements along this river include Kargil, Tolti and Marol.
